EuroSong News is the official international magazine of the Eurovision Song Contest Fan Clubs across Europe.
The contest, which was originally envisaged as a one-off TV show in 1956, has grown to become a two-day event in order to accommodate the growing number of countries wishing to take part. In the course of 50 year the show has come in for its fair share of criticism, but it has also developed a huge fan base. The fans, dubbed “Eurovision Anoraks” by UK Eurovision commentator Terry Wogan, are united by the magazine dedicated to their beloved contest. EuroSong News appears three times a year and is subscribed to by fan clubs in over thirty countries from Island to Israel. The magazine is an international production, printed in Germany with Swedish and Irish editors and a Russian lay-outer. It may be difficult for the non-Eurovision fan to imagine how a whole magazine can be filled with an event that only takes place once a year. A look in the pages of EuroSong News proves that this is not a problem. Aside from past and upcoming contests, there is a wealth of information on national selections, former competitors and, to quote the 1970 Eurovision winner, quite simply, “All kinds of everything”. All this is presented in a light-hearted manner, but with the greatest of respect for the legend that is the Eurovision Song Contest.
